The Gospel of Mark is the second of the four canonical gospels in the New Testament. The gospel narrates the life of Jesus of Nazareth from his baptism by John the Baptist to the resurrection (or to the empty tomb in the shorter recension), but it concentrates particularly on the last week of his life. Its swift narrative portrays Jesus as a heroic man of action, an exorcist, a healer and miracle worker. It calls him the Son of Man, the Son of God, and the Christ.

Κατά Μαρκον ) — вторая книга Нового Завета и второе из четырёх канонических евангелий. Традиционно в Новом Завете следует после Евангелия от Матфея и перед Евангелиями от Луки и от Иоанна.
Основная тема Евангелия — жизнь и проповедь Иисуса Христа, Сына Божия. Евангелие от Марка наиболее краткое среди четырёх Евангелий. По многим фрагментам оно пересекается с Евангелием от Матфея, однако излагает некоторые события из жизни Иисуса более кратко и в другом порядке. Обращено Евангелие к христианам из язычников — по сравнению с Евангелием от Матфея в тексте присутствуют объяснения иудейских обычаев и географии Палестины, а также намного более редки ссылки на Ветхий Завет. Только в этом Евангелии приведён эпизод о неизвестном юноше, который в ночь взятия Христа воинами выбежал на улицу в одном одеяле, и когда один из воинов схватил его за одеяло, то, вырываясь из рук воина, он оставил одеяло в его руках, и убежал совершенно нагой (14:51-52). По преданию, этот юноша и был сам евангелист Марк.

Het heilig evangelie naar de beschrijving van Marcus
De "Mark" iPhone applicatie laat jou gemakkelijk lezen, zoeken en geeft je toegang tot elke passage in Het heilig evangelie naar de beschrijving van Marcus.
Het evangelie volgens Marcus is het tweede van de vier in de bijbel. Waarschijnlijk is het het oudste en is het geschreven rond 65 n.C.. Het begint met het optreden van Johannes de Doper, en eindigt met Jezus' dood en opstanding.
Marcus was zelf geen apostel maar een medewerker van Paulus, die hij begeleidde op zijn eerste zendingsreis. Gekweld door heimwee haakte hij echter af. Volgens sommigen heeft hij het evangelie op aanwijzing van Petrus geschreven.
Het laatste deel van het laatste hoofdstuk, over de verschijningen van Jezus, komt niet voor in o.a. de Codex Sinaïticus. Deze authentieke tekst werd pas twee eeuwen na de eerste druk van de Statenvertaling gevonden.
Marcus is geen Hebreeuwse naam maar waarschijnlijk afgeleid van de naam van de Romeinse oorlogsgod Mars.
